A Lampwork Glass Bead Turns in the Flame
Published · Updated
A lampwork glass bead glows at the edge of a small bench flame while an artisan works with two slender rods. The lime green glass carries rounded orange dots, with an orange glass rod approaching its hottest edge. A metal mandrel supports the bead from the other side, keeping the small object suspended between the careful hands.
The woman wears violet-tinted protective glasses, an ochre apron and a cobalt blouse with fine cream embroidery at the cuffs. Her long braid falls over one shoulder beside the working area. Racks of colored rods, an extraction hood and a cooled bead on a pale tile make the studio setting clear, while late daylight warms the glass and brushed metal surfaces.
