A Lantern Beside the Dusk Cornfield Path
Published · Updated
A narrow dirt path opens between walls of tall, dry corn. Beside its entrance, an old iron lantern hangs from a curved hook on a rough wooden post. The candle inside lights the glass with a small amber flame and throws a warm patch onto the timber. Beyond that pool of light, the path quickly darkens.
Dry leaves curl across the ground and cling to the stalks on either side. Their ragged edges catch the remaining light, showing the texture of a field at the end of the season. Far above the path, a scarecrow with outstretched arms and a battered hat stands against the orange horizon. Its distant silhouette is the only figure in view.
The sky cools to grey-blue overhead as the sunset narrows behind the corn. Deep shadows fill the lower right and the turn of the path, leaving the lantern as the nearest point of warmth. This quiet rural scene suits Halloween invitations, autumn farm stories or seasonal reading pages with an eerie atmosphere.
