Lightning passes over the cactus nursery
Published · Updated
A cactus nursery stands beneath a wide violet storm sky, its tall ribbed plants lit by small warm lamps. Beyond the low boundary wall, distant lightning branches toward a dark ridge. The strike remains far outside the garden, while the doorway and wet brick foreground give the viewer a sheltered place to look out. A broken reflection flashes in the shallow puddle along the path.
The cactus stems differ in height, thickness and branching shape. Fine spines catch the nearby lamps, and shorter plants grow in rounded terracotta pots beside the gravel beds. A timber pergola crosses the left side of the scene, its narrow open slats leaving the storm clearly visible overhead. The plants and pots remain grounded in the garden's ordinary working layout.
Warm amber light stays close to the growing beds, while cool purple light spreads through the clouds and distant hills. This difference gives the photograph its depth without separating the garden from the weather. Damp masonry, irregular gravel and reflected highlights keep the foreground tactile, leading toward the brief bright line in the sky.
