The Open Rings in the Rain Garden
Published · Updated
Tall steel arcs rise from a shared base above a rain garden. Their open ends stop at different heights, creating a stepped rhythm against the grey sky. Broad orange-brown faces carry dark rain streaks and patches of weathering, while the thick cut edges reveal the weight of the metal. Air remains visible between the nested curves, and bolts along the footing show how the sculpture meets the ground.
Below, shallow pools wind between islands of sedges, grasses and small yellow flowers. Flat stones cross the water, and a broad dark block sits near the gravel path. The wet surfaces catch muted reflections of the steel, broken by small ripples and the edges of the planting. Beyond the terrace railing, a river curves between autumn woods with pale mist resting on the slopes. A soft opening in the clouds adds a warm line to the distant water.
