Pea shooting brings a village-green challenge
Published · Updated
Pea shooting gives two friends a small challenge at a village fete. The younger man holds a short tube to his lips and aims along a clear grass lane. Beside him, his older companion watches with a smile. Their relaxed stance and different expressions make the moment feel like a friendly attempt rather than a formal demonstration.
A small white target is fixed to a tall timber board in front of a hay bale backstop. Colored bunting marks the edges of the lane, and a white canvas tent stands to one side. Beyond the game, a stone building and leafy trees fill the background. The simple materials make the scale and arrangement of the activity easy to read.
The younger player wears a pale blue checked shirt, cropped cream trousers and canvas shoes. A navy polo shirt and gray trousers give his companion a darker silhouette. Afternoon light picks out the hay strands and grass blades, while patches of tree shade break up the lawn. The wide view holds the people, target and surrounding fete together in one sunny outdoor scene.
