Roller skaters sweep around the clifftop rink
Published · Updated
Two roller skaters follow a broad curve around an open coastal rink. The woman wears rust trousers and teal quad skates, while her companion follows in navy trousers and pale skates. They turn their faces toward one another with easy smiles. Helmets, wrist guards and knee pads accompany the relaxed posture of an ordinary afternoon glide.
Wide bands of mint, terracotta and cream sweep across the smooth floor. Long shadows fall behind the skaters, and small scuffs keep the surface tangible. Above the left side of the rink, a curved timber canopy rests on angled steel columns with visible plates and bolts. Its repeated scalloped edge guides the eye toward the coast.
A glass guardrail runs along the outer edge, leaving an open view of limestone sea stacks and white surf. The cliff line recedes into a pale distance beneath scattered clouds. The photograph holds both scales at once: the grand stretch of coastline and the small exchange between two people moving together. Warm light connects their clothes, the wooden roof and the worn colors under their wheels.
