Salt polygons cross the open desert
Published · Updated
Salt polygons cross the open desert in an irregular white mosaic. Raised crystalline ridges separate pale interiors, with thin blue-gray shadows defining the rough edges. Some cells are broad and almost rounded, while others narrow into uneven corners or break into a few smaller cracked shapes.
A darker gray-violet band passes diagonally through part of the view, changing the tone without interrupting the larger mineral pattern. Fine grains and scattered tan dust keep the white surface from appearing perfectly smooth. With the horizon outside the frame, the straight-down perspective concentrates on the meeting of ridges, shadows and crust, turning a wide dry landscape into a close study of natural geometry.
