Sandboarding across the copper dune
Published · Updated
Sandboarding cuts a clear line across the copper dune. The rider bends his knees and spreads his arms for balance as a narrow fan of loose grains follows the board. Both boots sit in separate sandboard bindings, with the helmet and the angled edge of the board keeping the small action easy to read.
Broad desert ridges continue far beyond the rider, alternating warm sunlight with long shaded slopes. The distant dunes are quieter than the disturbed sand in the foreground, and the pale sky leaves space above their horizon. The photograph gives the landscape most of the frame while retaining the focused face, planted stance and fine spray that explain the movement.
