Snow geese rise above the flooded rice field

Published · Updated

Five snow geese rise together above a flooded rice field. Their wings catch different phases of the same movement, with one pair raised high and another sweeping forward close to the water. Black flight feathers make strong dark fans against the pale bodies. Small pink feet trail below, and bright droplets remain suspended where the birds have just pushed away from the surface.

The low viewpoint keeps the takeoff connected to the field. Broken rice stems project through shallow water, and disturbed reflections spread into uneven ripples beneath the flock. Many more geese remain farther back, their smaller white shapes forming a loose band across the wet ground. The foreground birds are clearly separated from that softer gathering.

A peach sky lightens above distant blue hills. Its color repeats in the water between the dark stems, while cool shadows shape the birds' white feathers. The composition leaves room around the ascending wings and follows their movement across the middle of the frame. Energy comes from the splashes and varied wing angles, set against the calm, open atmosphere of the early morning.
