Snowy Ballfield Rests beyond the Open Gate
Published · Updated
A snowy ballfield opens beyond an open backstop gate in the first light of day. Home plate sits near the foreground, still recognizable beneath a thin covering of white. Two pale lines diverge toward the edges of the diamond, while a low pitching mound rises farther ahead. The light snowfall leaves the familiar layout readable across patches of brown soil and winter grass.
Galvanized posts, gate hinges and diamond-shaped mesh frame the entrance. A plain red protective pad covers part of the fence at the left, with snow gathered along its upper edge. These close details lead into a broad, empty playing area. Rough ground texture shows through the snow near the gateway, contrasting with the quieter field beyond.
Aluminum bleachers stand along one side, balanced by a small dark dugout on the other. Two floodlight poles remain unlit above the outfield fence. Bare trees and distant houses line the horizon beneath a soft blue sky. A low orange sun reaches through their branches, warming the cold scene without melting its stillness. The photograph holds a neighborhood recreation place during a pause between seasons.
