The Boat-Hull Balcony at Rainy Dusk
Published · Updated
A balcony shaped like the hull of a wooden boat projects into a tall, warmly lit room. Long planks follow its rounded bow, while dark ribs curve beneath it and draw attention to the depth of the structure. A broad timber post stands beside an open spiral staircase, and slender rails carry a line of amber light up to the upper level. The boat-like form is framed by the room’s heavy beams and steep wooden ceiling.
Below, a narrow water garden bends around rocks and ferns. A short footbridge crosses the channel, linking the stone floor to a sheltered sitting area with a rust-colored bench. Small ripples break the reflections of the lights and windows. Outside the tall glass wall, golden autumn trees stand against the cool blue of a lake at dusk. The interior is empty and still, allowing the contrast between curved timber, rough stone and moving water to hold the scene. Its vertical composition follows the stream upward to the great wooden hull.
