The Bottle Green Ceramic Brasserie

Published · Updated

Deep bottle green tiles cover the walls and counter of this tall brasserie, rising into bands of sculpted fruit and curling leaves. Their glossy surfaces shift from almost black in the recesses to bright green along the raised edges. Pale stone piers divide the enormous windows, while curved oak braces support the dark timber roof above. Outside, autumn trees stand beside a wet square, bringing a soft grey light into the room.

Brown leather booths and wooden chairs gather around small tables set with plain plates, clear glasses and polished brass lamps. Globe pendants lead toward a tiled arch at the back, where shelves hold neat rows of cream crockery. The worn stone floor catches small warm reflections from the lamps without losing its rough natural texture. From the close leather seat to the distant ceiling beams, the photograph offers a richly detailed view of materials that become more interesting with age. The ceramic ornament remains the room's most distinctive feature, surrounded by quiet morning light.
