The Copper Fan Turns through the Door
Published · Updated
A transparent fan of copper-colored threads sweeps across the back of a russet dress as its wearer turns through an open garden doorway. Thin curved ribs give the cape its scalloped outline, while the closely spaced strands allow glimpses of the dress and sunlit path beyond. The unusual silhouette is balanced by a simple long-sleeved gown, dark ankle boots and loose chestnut hair. One hand rests on the brass handle, and the other lifts a fold of the skirt clear of the threshold.
Dark green painted wood frames the figure on both sides. Worn terracotta tiles continue toward a low stone step, where the sheltered vestibule opens onto a leaf-strewn garden path. Golden foliage catches brighter light outside, while the interior edges stay shaded. The color relationships are restrained: copper, russet and ochre sit against deep green. Small reflections along the fan threads reveal its construction without making the whole garment glow. This photograph pairs an inventive wearable form with the ordinary movement of passing from a room into an autumn garden.
