The Grand Limestone Welcome Hall

Published · Updated

An immense semicircular window fills the end of this stone hall with pale daylight and a view of golden autumn trees. Beneath it, a broad staircase divides into curved side flights that climb toward the galleries. Tall pillars, carved balustrades and deep archways give the room a measured rhythm, while a coffered ceiling glows softly overhead. Each ceiling panel holds a small carved rosette, repeating across the warm vault like a field of flowers.

Large urns of copper coloured branches stand on either side of the landing, bringing the season into the monumental interior. The grey and cream marble floor forms a bold geometric pattern, catching reflections from the window and the lamps. Dark benches sit quietly beside the walls, leaving the architecture open to view. Through the central doorway, another warmly lit room continues the sense of depth. The photograph balances the cool weight of limestone with amber light, showing a generous place of arrival in clear, symmetrical detail.
