The Ivory and Sky Library

Published · Updated

Soft blue skies and leafy garlands fill the shallow ceiling domes of this luminous library. Ivory bookcases rise along both sides of the room, edged with delicate gold carving and joined by narrow upper galleries. Their fine iron railings repeat the botanical pattern above shelves of faded clothbound books. Slender white ladders lean against the cases, making the height of the collection clear from the open entrance doors.

Small walnut reading tables and pale blue chairs sit at intervals beside the shelves, with shaded lamps and a few closed volumes nearby. A tall arched window at the far end reveals a lake and fresh green hills. Spring sunlight crosses the cream and rose stone floor, whose large squares give the long room a gentle rhythm. The photograph keeps the elaborate ceiling, books and furniture within a single spacious view. Pale plaster and warm wood soften the grandeur, while the distant landscape adds a quiet sense of openness to the richly detailed interior.
