The Painted Arch Resting Hall
Published · Updated
Teal flowers and curling leaves follow the broad arches of this quiet resting hall. Their fine red borders repeat in small botanical patterns on the ivory walls, while slender columns carry dense blue and cream decoration down toward the floor. An octagonal glass lantern reveals misty trees above the room. The cool daylight it admits meets the warm glow of hanging bronze lanterns and small opal wall lamps.
Two rows of wooden reclining chairs face the central mosaic path, each covered in fresh white linen and finished with a burgundy head cushion. Carved timber screens stand beside the frosted doorway at the far end, with green plants softening the ochre tiled walls. The floor's repeating blue and rust shapes draw the eye through the successive arches. Natural wear in the tiles and gentle folds in the cloth give the decorated space a comfortable character. The photograph presents a place designed for stillness, where painted detail, muted colour and filtered light remain the main pleasures.
