The Room of Deep Sea Windows

Published · Updated

Deep window pockets give this coastal room a different view from every seat. Thick angled plaster walls separate the openings, making each one feel like a small room within the larger space. Oak ledges connect the bays, supporting cushions, a writing surface and the broad green reading nook in the foreground.

A shallow step leads into the central sitting area, where a cream sofa curves around a low walnut table. The floor remains close enough to the surrounding ledges for the room to feel connected. Rust and blue cushions add small changes of color without interrupting the quiet palette of plaster, oak and sea.

Low sunlight reaches only some of the windows, drawing triangles across the splayed walls and leaving the nearest alcove shaded. The horizon continues beyond the separate frames, with rough grasses and a rocky headland visible closer to shore.
