The Scarecrow Above the Pumpkin Path
Published · Updated
A line of carved pumpkins climbs a steep grassy hill, drawing warm curves through the dark landscape. Their faces shrink with distance until they become small amber points near the summit. There, the hill bends outward into an extraordinary curl. A slender scarecrow stands above it in a long coat and tall hat, with loose straw spreading from its cuffs. The great pale moon behind the figure makes every narrow edge easy to read.
Below the hill, a valley disappears beneath layers of low mist. Dark trees rise through the fog, and small clusters of cottage windows glow between them. The distant ridges fade into blue-grey bands beneath a quiet sky. Near the camera, pumpkin light falls over coarse grass, uneven stones and the edge of the narrow path. The view brings the hilltop and moon close together while preserving the long climb between the foreground and the tiny figure. Warm carved faces guide the eye upward through the landscape, ending at the still outline balanced against the moon.
