The Stream Runs beneath the Sitting Room

Published · Updated

A clear stream runs beneath the centre of this sitting room, visible through large glass floor panels. Dark frames divide the transparent surface, and substantial beams cross above the water. Rounded stones, moss and small white ripples remain visible below, while reflections of the windows remind the viewer that the floor is sealed and dry.

Oak boards form comfortable walking and seating areas on both sides of the glass. Linen-cushioned wooden chairs sit beside a small table on the left. On the right, a built-in bench follows a rough stone wall, with cream cushions and a dark green throw. A compact fire burns in the recessed hearth, and nearby shelves hold books and pottery in soft shadow.

Tall windows at the far end reveal the same stream continuing through autumn woodland. Water passes between mossy boulders beneath copper leaves, joining the room's unusual floor to the landscape outside. Warm wood, textured stone and gentle side light keep the interior inviting. The result is a complete home where the movement of a natural watercourse becomes part of the everyday view.
