The Turquoise Lantern Ballroom
Published · Updated
Turquoise and muted coral ceiling panels form an intricate geometric canopy above this lakeside ballroom. Gold borders trace the shapes, with blue-green lanterns suspended from decorative ceiling roses at intervals along the hall. Tall ivory columns carry climbing vines in raised gold, and their dark green stone bases connect the pale architecture to the deeper colours of the seating. Between the columns, arched windows frame leafy branches, blue water and distant hills, filling the room with warm, direct sunlight.
The parquet floor is an equally important part of the composition. Broad interlocking ribbons of light and dark timber reveal their grain beneath long pools of reflected light. Green velvet benches line the windows, joined by polished wooden tables and small arrangements of white flowers. Their low forms preserve the sense of height and the view along the room. Fine ornament appears throughout, yet the large windows and open floor give it breathing space. This photograph combines rich colour, detailed craftsmanship and a clear connection to the landscape outside.
