Tree fern croziers unfurl in the morning light

Published · Updated

Tree fern croziers unfurl above a dark fibrous crown, with one tall green stem ending in a tight rounded spiral. Smaller curled leaflets line its side, and golden hairs catch the sunlight along the outer edge. Younger shoots stand nearby at different heights, still wrapped in their compact growing tips.

Mature fern fronds spread through the softer background and place the close detail within a lush garden. Fine dew catches a little light between the hairs, while deep shade separates the stems around the base. The low diagonal view follows the continuous growth from the rough crown to the delicate unfolding shapes above.
