White Walls Rise from Mirrored Stone

Published · Updated

Tall white walls divide a small courtyard into a sequence of quiet passages. Along their bases, mirror-polished metal follows an irregular jagged line, reflecting the stones and plants gathered below. The boundary rises and falls like a distant mountain ridge. Above it, rough white plaster remains solid and still; below it, the garden appears to continue through the walls.

A path of broad slate slabs winds between the reflective surfaces toward a short flight of stone steps. Fine river pebbles fill the joints, while moss and ferns soften the edges of larger rocks. A simple stone bench rests beside the nearest wall beneath a branch of copper-coloured leaves. Morning light enters through the gaps and draws long shadows across the wet paving. Small distortions in the polished panels keep the reflections tangible, with seams and thin metal edges visible at close range. The view turns an ordinary meeting of wall and ground into the courtyard’s central surprise, held within a restrained arrangement of stone, foliage and light.
