Window Bats Gather for the Halloween Evening
Published · Updated
Window bats rise across a bay window as a father and son arrange Halloween clings together. The boy presses one small shape against the glass while holding the backing sheet in his other hand. His father waits beside him with another bat ready, smiling at the place the child has chosen. The loose diagonal leaves generous clear spaces between the dark silhouettes.
The boy's rust sweater has a narrow pale stripe across the back, paired with full green trousers and blue shoes. His father's teal overshirt opens over a cream top above light trousers. Both stand comfortably on the wooden floor, with their attention on the decoration. Their hands make the small practical sequence of choosing, placing and waiting easy to follow.
A green velvet sofa, copper cushion and woven rug fill the near side of the room. Warm light from a lamp and the hearth reaches the carved mantel, pumpkins and bookcase. Beyond the glass, the porch rails and neighboring houses sit beneath copper leaves in cool evening light. The picture joins a simple family activity with the welcoming depth of a lived-in autumn interior.
