Green Glass Leaves above the Terracotta Court
Published · Updated
Giant green leaves spread above a quiet brick courtyard, each one assembled from triangular glass panels held within a fine metal frame. Bottle green, lime and pale sea green meet across their pointed oval shapes. White steel stems branch upward from round stone bases, carrying both the broad shade canopies and smaller upright leaves. Visible ribs and bolted connections reveal how the familiar plant forms have become architecture.
Clear morning sunlight passes through the glass and lays patches of green across the wet terracotta floor. Copper leaves gather beside curved pale benches, bringing a second autumn color into the scene. Red brick walls, tall dark-framed windows and a shadowed arcade enclose the courtyard without hiding the blue sky above. The space is unoccupied, allowing the canopy’s shape and transmitted light to remain the focus. From the low viewpoint, the photograph follows the slender supports toward the overlapping leaves, while the rain-washed paving reflects fragments of the bright structure overhead.
