The Cloud Lantern Music Hall
Published · Updated
An oval glass roof opens this music hall to a clear blue sky, surrounded by curved ceiling panels painted with clouds and garlands of roses. Cream plaster mouldings and small gold leaves trace the edges of every panel. Three crystal chandeliers hang beneath the dome at different depths, with the largest centred over the open floor. At the far end, a small gallery with a pierced floral balustrade spans the room above a pair of carved doors.
The lower walls are a soft sage green, punctuated by tall mirrors, framed pictures and gilded details. Two dark green settees sit in matching alcoves, while open side doors lead toward potted citrus trees and a sunny garden. Warm terracotta floor tiles bring a grounded texture beneath the elaborate ceiling. Their uneven sheen catches light from the doors and chandeliers. A dark wooden grand piano enters the composition at the right, giving the room a clear musical purpose. The photograph joins delicate decoration with generous daylight and an inviting connection to the garden.
