The Cream and Cocoa Stair Salon

Published · Updated

Three pale marble stair flights zigzag across a tall window in this sunlit entrance salon. Their substantial stone undersides give the structure a strong outline, while clear glass rails and slender wooden handrails preserve the view through the space. Small round metal fixings punctuate the glass at regular intervals. Outside, a tree with golden autumn leaves fills much of the window, bringing a warm seasonal colour into the cream interior and its high, simply coffered ceiling.

Below the stairs, ochre and oatmeal armchairs gather around a low wooden table on a woven rug. A ribbed pale lamp and a vase of leafy branches make the seating area feel settled beneath the larger architectural forms. In the foreground, broad waves of cream and cocoa stone sweep across the floor. Their polished surfaces reflect the window while still revealing individual veins and tile seams. The photograph uses the contrast between curved floor patterns and angular stair flights to give this spacious room a distinctive sense of movement.
