The Facade of Translucent Baskets
Published · Updated
Hundreds of pale storage baskets form the outer skin of a small two-storey building. Their rounded rectangular rims, short handles and closely spaced perforations remain visible, even as the repeated rows become a textured architectural surface. Tall window openings interrupt the pale grid, while a broad timber doorway marks the entrance below. Warm light shines through the baskets and windows, giving the otherwise cool exterior a soft amber glow.
The building stands in a quiet autumn garden framed by bronze leaves, small trees and loose clumps of grass. An empty wooden bench faces the rain-dark courtyard, where broad paving slabs reflect the entrance light. Seen from a corner, the two walls show how the ordinary containers wrap the whole structure in overlapping layers. Small gaps and projecting edges catch different amounts of light, making the facade feel deep and tangible. The photograph pairs a surprisingly familiar material with a calm evening setting, turning a simple garden building into a luminous pattern of baskets.
