The Guitar at the End of the Promenade
Published · Updated
A monumental red electric guitar rises from a dark stone plinth at the end of a seaside promenade. Its long fingerboard and complete headstock extend into the evening sky, while a pale pickguard contrasts with the deep cherry body. Fine metal strings, frets, bridge fittings and tuning pegs carry the familiar details of an instrument into a much larger scale.
The curved lacquered body reflects nearby autumn trees and the warm edge of the sunset. A discreet dark support fixes the sculpture to its low oval base. Wet paving around the plinth catches gold and red reflections, with scattered leaves lying between the stone joints. Empty curved benches provide a clear sense of the guitar's height.
Behind the sculpture, a small bandstand stands beneath copper-leaved trees. A dark railing follows the edge of the promenade, with calm grey-blue water and a low distant headland beyond. The full instrument remains visible against soft clouds, while the surrounding seafront gives the bright red form a quiet, spacious setting. No lettering appears on the body or headstock.
